1.Get a Domain Name

If you have researched and decided that blogging is right for you, then next you want to decide what your niche is or what you want to blog about. Now you are ready for step one! Get a domain name!

You want your name to be short and simple. You want people to be able to remember it. Instead of howtostartamomblogfromhome my domain name is just momblogfromhome which is much simpler.

Decide on a domain name

Let’s say your domain name has a number in it then you have to decide if you want it to be the actual number or the number spelled out. For example is an amazing book keeping site my husband uses for his lawn care company. They use the actual number instead of spelling out the number 2 as two.

Decide where to purchase your domain name

The two places I buy my domain names at are GoDaddy and NameCheap. Domains run anywhere from $2.99+ but the average is around $10-$15 for a whole year. Not too expensive! It just depends on the domain name. As of writing this the domain name is available for only $3,095.00! This domain I would assume has a lot of traffic going to it making it worth a lot more money.

Between GoDaddy and NameCheap I personally prefer NameCheap. The reason is in the name. At GoDaddy they are just a bit higher and like to up sell you at checkout. NameCheap is right to the point and a little less. Plus when I bought my last domain name I looked at first and found a 10% off coupon! Score! I love RetailMeNot they always have great coupons especially for my guilty pleasure…Papa John’s Pizza!

2. Get Hosting For Your Site

After you get your domain name, you need to get hosting for your blog. The best example I have heard to explain domain names, hosting and WordPress is that it is just like a brick and mortar business. The domain name is your address, the hosting is the property/building, and your blog on WordPress is your business inside. I hope that makes sense. The point is that you need all three and they all work together to make the foundation of your blog.

Decide where to purchase hosting for your blog

There are three top places that people use for hosting. There is BlueHost, HostGator, and SiteGround. I have tried all three and the one that I currently have and prefer is SiteGround.

I have followed several other bigger bloggers that also use SiteGround. I like that they offer hosting that lets you grow as you grow. I have three domains that are currently being hosted through SiteGround and I am able to add as many as I want with my current hosting plan because I knew I wanted to grow my blogging business.

Looking for need help pointing your domain name from NameCheap to your hosted blog with SiteGround? I have the instructions right here!

3. Install Word Press

Lastly, you will need to install the WordPress plug-in. Log into your hosting account and from there install the WordPress plug-in. If you chose SiteGround as your hosting account then I have instruction here on how to install WordPress on your SiteGround hosted blog.

Now that everything is all connected you are ready to go! You officially have a blog!

If you aren’t sure where to go from here then don’t worry I have the perfect thing for you!

I was in your shoes not too long ago! I felt lost like I didn’t have all the pieces of the puzzle yet. I felt like I had this hollow shell of a blog and I had no idea how to fill it or where to even begin!

I had followed many other bloggers, taken courses, read ebooks, and still felt like something was missing. Then I came across this course and it has helped me so much! It was well worth the very small investment to guide me through the steps to getting my blog up and running! I absolutely love this course and I have since invested into some of her other courses and ebooks and I have loved them all! I am currently reading this one and it talks about her income journey with her blog which is very interesting!

You have to check this out!

She is currently offering a FREE course called 31 Actionable Steps You Need to Take In Your First Month of Blogging.

This is an amazing opportunity for new bloggers! I don’t know how long it will be free so I would jump on that! What do you have to lose? Nothing! Following Suzi has been the single best thing I have done for my blogging business!

I hope you enjoyed how to set up your blog in 3 easy steps. Like I said it is just the tip of the iceberg and is the basic steps on how to step up your blog!

Thank you!
